The BOM tab on a product is where you build the Bill of Materials — the structured list of components that make up the product, mapped to where they go and which articles use them. BOMs are season-aware: each season owns its own BOM. Switch season at the top of the tab and the structure, components, and connections switch with you.
Open the BOM tab
Open a product and click BOM in the tabs row below the product header. The BOM for the currently selected season loads. The toolbar above the structure has four controls:
Placements — opens a view where you can upload a picture or sketch of the product, then place each placement's sequence number on it to mark where it sits on the garment.
Sort — sort the articles shown on the right side of the BOM. Sort by fields like gender, article number, or season, ascending or descending.
Filter — filter the articles shown on the right side of the BOM by status, tag, or supplier, to control which articles are visible. The current filter selection can optionally be saved as the default with Set as default.
Export — see Export the BOM below.
Below the toolbar, filter pills show the active filters. Click a pill to remove that filter. The filtering is layered — remove status pills first, then any other filter pills you don't want visible. To show everything, remove all visible pills until none remain. Filters can be re-added from the Filter button.
The season pill at the top-right of the BOM area shows which season's BOM is loaded — switch it to load a different season's BOM.
How a BOM is structured
A BOM is built from sections and placements. Placements live inside sections, and the components that make up the product attach to placements. Each component is then connected to the articles that use it.
Building a BOM
You can either build a BOM from scratch, or start from an existing one:
Copy full BOM — copy the entire BOM from another product on the same season.
Copy from season — copy the BOM from a different season on the same product.
BOM templates configured in Admin — a starter BOM (sections + placements) seeded automatically when a new product is created in a given hierarchy.
New seasons added to a product inherit the most recent BOM automatically.
Sections
A section is a top-level grouping in the BOM — for example Main, Trims, Packaging.
Naming — section names can be edited directly in the BOM or pre-configured in Admin so they stay consistent across products and avoid typos. When you start typing a section name, suggestions from your saved section names appear. A name saved on a BOM is also created in Admin.
Reordering — the handle next to the section name moves the section up and down to change order.
EDIT toggle — opens every placement in the section into edit mode at once, so all the editable symbols on each placement are visible. As an alternative, hover a single placement to reveal the same symbols and edit/delete.
Save — saves the section as a reusable bundle. The saved section then becomes available on other products under Find template section, and lives in Admin under saved sections.
Delete — the trash icon removes the section. Deletion cannot be undone.
Adding a section. Add a section from the bottom of the BOM. Two starting points:
Empty section — start a section from scratch and add placements one at a time.
Find template section — pulls in a saved section (the bundle that was created by clicking Save on a section).
Placements
A placement is the type of element that lives inside a section. Examples:
Section Main → placement Shell Fabric
Section Labels → placement Hang Tag
Section Main Trims → placement Zipper
Adding a placement. Add a placement to an existing section with + Add Placement at the bottom of the section.
A placement row starts empty (if not added by default from template). Give it a name, then fill it with a component. There are two ways to add a component:
From the component library — type into the placement's search box and pick an existing component. This is the recommended path.
Create directly in the BOM — click Create new and fill in the fields inline. This also creates the component in the library.
⚠️ Components created inline still land in the shared component library. Avoid creating near-empty duplicates — they clutter the library and make shared component data harder to maintain across products. If you don't yet have the full details, create with what you have and complete it later from the library.
Once a component is in place, the row shows the following — each field is editable directly in the row:
Name and reference number (if the component has one). Click the component name to enter a quantity and attributes — things like weight, length, or thickness, whichever are configured for that component in the library. Attributes can also be created directly in the BOM.
Type and composition.
Supplier.
Comment.
Hovering on a placement reveals a row of controls:
A sequence number — set via a + that appears to the left of the placement name. Sequence numbers are what the Placements toolbar button uses to mark each placement on the uploaded product sketch.
Move — reorder the placement within its section.
Set as Principal — the star. See more info below.
Set placement tag — opens a small picker of tags configured in Admin.
A placement name can carry a default tag set in Admin, so this is often pre-filled.
Add another component — adds an extra component row to this placement (placements can hold multiple components).
Delete — the trash icon removes the placement.
Connecting components to articles. Each component is connected to the articles that use it. Not every component connects to every article — connect a component only to the articles that include it.
Each component row has a + Connect cell per article on the right. Click + Connect under an article to connect that component to that article and pick which colour it takes on the article. The picker offers, in order:
Set article colour — let the component inherit whichever colour is set on the article.
A colour added on the component in the component's library.
Another colour from the product or a recently used colour, or New colour to add one.
Mark multiple + Connect cells under one article to bulk-set them to the same colour.
If a placement holds multiple components, each component connects independently — so different articles can have different components on the same placement (Shell Fabric is one material on article A and a different material on article B). If an article isn't connected to any component on a placement, that placement shows empty for that article — connections must be made explicitly.
The Principal placement
One placement on each BOM is the Principal placement, marked with a ⭐ star next to its name. The components on the Principal placement are what surface upstream as the article's and product's Principal Material — the field visible on the article row, the article detail page, and the product header.
The star defaults to the first placement added to the BOM and can be moved. To move it, hover the target placement, then click the star-outline button next to the placement name.
Export the BOM
Click Export in the BOM toolbar to export the BOM. The export reflects the current view — filters, sorting, and the season currently selected in the season pill.
The export produces a tech pack from a default template. Can be configured in admin. The BOM exports as both Excel and PDF, and the files are saved under the product's Files tab. To be able to send the file via sample request, an export must be done first to save the file.
You can mass export multiple BOMs at the same time in the table view on the start page.
⚠️ Deleting a section or placement cannot be undone. Any component connections it held are removed too.
